A Legacy Gift from Craig Voorhees ’49 Challenges Others to Give

Craig Voorhees ’49 grew up on a dairy farm in the small town of Glen, New York, where he worked tirelessly. “I can assure you, hard work never hurt anybody—and it does pay off,” he wrote in 2011, as encouragement to a Cornell student who had received the scholarship he had established when he retired.

A project manager for U.S. government agencies, including the Atomic Energy Commission, Voorhees also entrusted his estate to Cornell to be used wherever needs are greatest. In tribute, Cornell has leveraged Voorhees’s bequest as matching funds for a challenge aimed at inspiring up to a hundred scholarships.

“He believed that he owed most of his success and accomplishments to the university and that the school made him the man that he became,” said John Henley, Voorhees’s nephew.

With his legacy, Voorhees shapes the lives of Cornellians to come.
